UrbanData2Decide - Urban Decision Making
In an increasingly complex environment cities and urban areas have to deal with unprecedented challenges.
One of the most important tasks for cities is the early-identification of new conflicts, challenges and opportunities, to avoid city problems and to realise opportunities.
In this project Oxford City Council and the Oxford Internet Institute are working with city partners in the UK and Europe to develop state of the art tools to can support local government in this demanding task. The explores the potential for tools by designing an integrated and multi-dimensional model combining diverse open data and social media sources.
Building on these information pools, the project plans to develop a high-performance monitoring framework to process, filter and combine this data.
The framework will extensively use data mining, sentiment analysis and visualization techniques and lead to the development of a proof-of-concept prototype to present the output using intuitive and clear dashboards.
The project will contribute to an improved take-up of innovative tools by relevant urban stakeholders, reduce costs with the automated monitoring and analysis features, increase the usage of big data for urban governance and integrate manifold expert knowledge into a multi-dimensional decision support solution.
